The SEWP VI Requirement Nobody's Talking About Yet: ISO 9001

If you just got awarded SEWP VI, congrats. Now start your ISO 9001 clock.

ISO 9001:2015 certification is a requirement for SEWP VI awardees. If you're a small business that hasn't gone through it yet, the standard runway agencies expect is 12 months from award. That sounds like plenty of time until you actually look at what an ISO 9001 audit demands: a quality management system that's alive and being used, not a policy binder that gets pulled out once a year to prove you have one.

We didn't build Virtual Dojo with ISO 9001 in mind. We built it to fix quoting and pipeline chaos for federal VARs. But one of our customers, Jonathan Humberg, CEO of Blue Solutions, recently went through his ISO 9001:2015 audit and passed it using Virtual Dojo as a core part of his evidence. That's not a feature we marketed. It's a side effect of running your sales operation through a system that already tracks the things an auditor wants to see.

What an auditor actually wants to see

ISO 9001 auditors aren't looking for a document that says you have a quality process. They're looking for proof the process runs, every day, on real work. That's the part that catches small businesses off guard. You can write a beautiful quality manual in a weekend. You can't fake six months of consistent, logged evidence that the process is actually being followed.

That's where most small SEWP VI awardees are exposed. They have the will, they don't have the system generating the paper trail automatically.

Where Virtual Dojo already does the work for you

A chunk of what an auditor asks for, Virtual Dojo is already producing as a byproduct of you just doing your job:

Control of documented information (clause 7.5). Your procedures, forms, and quote templates live in one system with revision history and access controls already attached. No separate document control binder to maintain.

Customer requirements, suppliers, and delivery (clauses 8.2, 8.4, 8.5). Every RFQ, quote, and supplier interaction gets logged automatically. That's a real requirement-to-delivery trail, not something you reconstruct the week before your audit.

Monitoring and measurement (clause 9.1). Win rate, margin, and delivery dashboards update live. The KPI evidence an auditor asks for already exists instead of getting assembled under deadline pressure.

Corrective action tracking (clause 10.2). Corrective actions sit right next to the KPI that triggered them, so you can show the loop closed instead of explaining it after the fact.

Where you still own it, but faster

Virtual Dojo doesn't replace your judgment, and it shouldn't. Risk assessment and quality objectives (clauses 6.1, 6.2) are still your call, we just hand you the pipeline and margin data that decision should be based on. Internal audits (clause 9.2) are still your program to run, but auditors get one place to pull evidence instead of five. Management review (clause 9.3) is still your meeting, our reports are just built to drop directly into the inputs you're already required to produce.

Bringing in a new system without adding audit risk

If you're mid-implementation or thinking about switching tools ahead of your audit, one legitimate worry is that adopting a new system is itself a change your QMS has to control under clause 6.3. We plan rollout around your audit calendar rather than through it, keep a documented cutover record, and every quote, RFQ, and revision carries its full history forward. Nothing goes dark mid-transition, which is exactly what an auditor is trained to be suspicious of.

The bigger picture

This all sits on top of a compliance program most vendors in this space can't match: CMMC Level 2 self-certified against all 110 NIST SP 800-171 controls, FedRAMP 20x Moderate in progress with nightly automated evidence, SOC 2 Type II underway, FIPS 140-2 validated encryption, data residency 100% U.S. That's not decoration. It's the same reason auditors trust the evidence Virtual Dojo generates for ISO 9001 in the first place: the underlying rigor is already there.
